2019 December Newsletter

Macquarie year in review

Despite the trying times, 2019 has been a successful year for Macquarie and our clients.

  • Sire MD17-4342 opened and closed the year as the highest ranked 2017 drop Dohne on the SG database.
  • Very successful embryo transfer program where, for the first time, Greg transferred all doubles resulted in an 80% stick rate and 142% weaned.
  • Most successful exhibitor at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show;
    • NSW Champion Single
    • NSW Champion Pair
    • National Reserve Champion Pair
    • Best Single Fleece (< 81mm) – For the second year in a row
    • Best 3 Fleeces (< 81mm) – For the second year in a row
  • Record auction price for a Dohne ram in Victoria for $13000.
  • Flock rams to $6000 (equal in Australia at an on property auction 2019) and a 100% clearance at our 16th annual production sale.
Associate Judge Tegan Falkner – Elders, Mt Gambier SA, Event Sponsors Anthony Shepherd – Sheepmatters, Cootamundra NSW, John Nadin and Judge Charlotte Treloar.- Elders, Broken Hill NSW.

Client success continued through both Auctions Plus and the saleyards.
Too many to mention but some highlights;

  • Tony Falkenhagen of Louth topped the Dubbo sale in September with 550 late June shorn wethers selling to $225 and averaging $211.
  • Mark, Sue & Sam Evans , Walgett sold 870 off shears, 3 1/2 year old ewes for a top of $213 and a $210 average on Auctions Plus in October.
  • Chris & Lachie McLellan, Clunes Victoria, sold 243 1 1/2 year old March shorn ewes for $202 on Auctions Plus in December.

As mentioned previously, if you are are non-mulesed it would be worth signing up with the Authentico Integrity Scheme by The Schneider Group. Register at gschneider.com/registrations.

Dohne wool that Schneider knows of fits the specs perfectly for some of their overseas clients. In fact, Schneider purchased the entire clip of one notable Macquarie blood breeder recently. So that Schneider can see what they have purchased in the past and keep their eye out  in the future, could you please email your bale brand to Tanya macquarie@dohnes.com.au and we will forward to Schneider. As Schneider is an exporter, this could benefit you greatly. Schneider, will not receive any other details besides your brand.

A big thank you to the Macquarie staff, Robyn and the Nadin clan, Central West Genetics, secretary Tanya Barton, classer James Koster, seedstock agents Chris Clemson and Russell Hiscox of Clemson Hiscox & Co, auctioneer Paul Dooley, all associated classer’s and agents and especially our loyal clients who continue to support us through such trying times.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a wet, wet, wet, 2020.
John and Greg

16th Annual Production Sale

Our 16th sale topped at $6000 and averaged $1880 with a 100% clearance.

The rams representing five families; Ace, Majestic, Olympus, Empire and Wardry, sold to Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales.

A volley of bids both on the phone and on-site saw Majestic 180459, a twin, sell to a top price of $6000. He had a post weaning eye muscle depth (PEMD) of +2.6 and was purchased via the phone for commercial breeders Craig and Jude Ross, Balmoral, Victoria. They also purchased a second ram from the Majestic family for $4000.

Volume buyers were composite breeders Mt Elephant station, Derrinallum, Victoria, who purchased 15 rams. They are looking to do a trial with the Dohnes to maintain their growth rates and carcase attributes and reduce their micron.
